Mario to turn in D.N.A. October 13th
Co-Headlines BET LIVE! 106 & Park Tour
(October 1, 2009 – New York, NY) Lead by the continuous success of his #1 hit single “Break Up” featuring Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett, and his new single “Thinkin’ About You” destined to follow the same chart ascent, platinum R&B star Mario is set to release his new album D.N.A. on October 13 on J Records. “Break Up” claimed the #1 position for six consecutive weeks on the Urban Mainstream chart. The chart-topping radio success extended into the mobile world where “Break Up” was the Top 5 ringer on Ringscan chart for 6 weeks and is already certified Gold.
From radio to Ringscan, Mario will transfer all the excitement surrounding his current success into a high-energy performance as he co-headlines BET LIVE's 106 & Park Tour. The 21-city jaunt includes stops in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and Mario’s hometown of Baltimore. Television viewers will get a sneak peek of Mario’s live show when he joins Gucci Mane for a performance of “Break Up” during the BET Hip Hop Awards, airing October 27 at 8:00 PM.
D.N.A. is a sexy and honest collection delivered by a young seasoned superstar that has grown from teen idol to soulful stylist all while maintaining his integrity throughout his career. D.N.A. resonates with topics of love, relationships, and heartbreak; replete with a versatile yet distinctive Mario sound that critics and fans have grown to adore. “Being a vocalist and being able to express myself in ways that a lot of artists can’t do is in my DNA – literally and creatively,” states Mario. “I think that my growth is evident through my music and that’s what D.N.A. is all about. Showing that growth and having that conversation with my fans.”
Now 23, Mario’s proven that being a superstar isn’t about the drama or spending as much time in the tabloids as on the charts. Mario came to acclaim at the age of 15 when he released his self-titled debut in 2002 which spawned the Top 10 single “Just a Friend (2002).” His follow-up album, 2004’s Turning Point, featured the mega hit “Let Me Love You,” which skyrocketed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for five weeks, propelling Turning Point to worldwide double-platinum status and earning Mario two Grammy nominations and two Billboard wins. Mario’s December 2007 release of Go marked his third Top 5 debut on Billboard’s R&B Album chart and featured the hit singles “How Can I Breathe” and “Crying Out For Me.”
